Church History

The New Life Family Church was birthed April 8, 2007 at 3:00 pm in the Hyacinthe Court Community Center, in River Rouge, MI. Much prayer, preparation and planning produced an awesome move of God wherein our Pastor and Founder, Welton T. Smith IV, preached and 26 people joined on opening day. During our tenure in the Hyacinthe Court facility, we saw the awesome power of God displayed and God added to the church weekly.

In the Beginning

There we began our Tuesday night Bible Study and convened our Church Dedication in August of the same year. And were furthermore blessed to witness the installation ceremony of our Pastor. Pastor Welton T. Smith, III of Las Vegas, NV and Bishop J. Drew Sheard of Detroit, MI performed the ceremony. New Life rapidly grew to approximately 60 members. Due to complications with the River Rouge Housing Commission, New Life was informed that because of special circumstances could not allow our worship services to continue in their property. This was the first test of the churches strength.

Church History: January 2008

In January of 2008, God opened the door for New Life to move into The Upper Room Christian Entertainment Complex in Detroit, MI. Here, God continued to add to the church, our membership grew by leaps and bounds. There we were able to have worship every Sunday & Tuesday Evening. While the growth was good and the location was great, it still was not our own. So we prayed and asked God for direction in securing our own worship edifice.

Church History: June 2008

Finally in July of 2008, God opened the door for New Life to lease and secure our first worship edifice of our own. It was located at 14700 Puritan Ave, in Detroit, MI. During this season it was remarkable how all of our family members joined together to renovate and beautify our first home. God continued to add to the church naturally, spiritually, financially, and numerically. Due to our growth in membership, we began our noonday bible class & Friday Night Live services. While we enjoyed Puritan we knew God was calling us to be more than renters.

Church History: March 2010

In March of 2010, after the vision was released God enabled us to band together again and make our first purchase of our present property located at 13881 Joseph Campau in Detroit, MI. We are believing God for greater and stand in the position to produce an environment that cannot be explained, but must be experienced." To that end, we will continue to press forward, following our Pastor and Founder as he follows Christ. We engage therefore to be a Christ-Centered, Bible-Based, Community-Involved, Family-Oriented, and Well-Balanced Church --. And we declare that if God be for us, who can be against us!
